Smyth Apothecary
Serving patients in need since 1571

Our History
The tradition of the Smyth Apothecary dates back in our family to England to 1571 when our
forebearer Sir William Smyth was celebrated as the Apothecary of Shrewsbury in England.  It was during this era that William became a member of the 'Worshipful Society of Apothecaries' chartered by James I in 1617 in seeking to standardize the industry in assuring the remedies provided were proven to better the quality of health and life of the patient.

Celtic Culdee Mission
In more recent times, Abbot David Michael (Smyth)  continues to promote the use of herbal remedies within the family of the Celtic Christian Churches and the Templars where he is active. The members of these orders take their hypocratic vows very seriously in serving the needs of the sick and the poor.   We are seeking to develop Apothecaries in various locations as we are able.  You may contact Abbot David at info@glentivar.org for more information.

Side Effects of Drugs
Since the 16th century, the Smyth family has continued with this calling in growing, mixing and prescribing herbal remedies to those in need.  The rebirth of this noble profession in the 21st century is a timely response to recent research that has shown that the 4th cause of death in patients in Hospitals is due to the side effects of FDA approved drugs prescribed by MDs.  The modern drug companies are in this industry for profit with little concern for the long-term side effects of the potent drugs they are peddling.

Sadly, American MDs are blindly at their mercy in only being told what sells the drugs they manufacture.  It is what doctors are not told by the drug companies that ultimately may kill their patients.  In Germany today, about 600-700 plant based remedies are available across the nation and are prescribed by some 70% of German Physicians.  Only in America have the drug companies hijacked the healing industry by the monopoly of the FDA  funded largely by the legalized drug cartels - all for profit.

It is true that herbal remedies often work slower and are less potent than manufactured drugs but they do not have the medical side effects that kills over 100,000 US patients a year.  Why are we in such a hurry to be healed?  It is a wiser approach to let nature heal in its natural time than overwhelm your body with drugs that may kill you later with side effects.

It is not uncommon for such potent drugs to destroy one's liver, kidneys, stomach or other vital organs that cannot process the high potency of these drugs.  The alternative is to let nature take its course in healing with the supplemental assistance of herbal remedies that enhance the bodies natural healing processes.  You can be assured that with the right prescribed herbal remedies, your body will respond favorably in operating fully to bring healing to your body.

Our Extraction Process
The processes we use to extract the natural healing capabilities of herbal remedies dates back over 3000 years.  In recent years, we have adapted Oriental, European and Native American approaches in creating remedies that really work.  We only use the most pure herbal sources we can get organically grown with no genetic altering of the plants.

Remedies can come in the form of  tea, syrups, oils, liquid extracts, tinctures and dry extracts (pills or capsules).  Teas can be made from dried herbs left to soak for a few minutes in hot water or boiling herbs in water and then straining the liquid.  Syrups are commonly made from concentrated extracts and added to sweet tasting preparations and are often used for sore throats and coughs.  Oils are extracted from plants and often used as rubs or massage, either by themselves or as part of an ointment, cream or salve.  Tinctures and liquid extracts are made of active herbal ingredients dissolved in a liquid (usually water, alcohol or glycerol).  Tinctures are usually in a 1:5 or 1:10 solution whereas extracts are kept in their full potency of 1:1.  A dry extract form is the most concentrated form of an herbal product and is sold as a tablet, capsule or lozenge.

Smyth Apothecary can become your one source stop for all of your healing needs.  Although we cannot guarantee healing in all cases.  we can say that if a patient is not healed, it is usually due to other medical issues not yet identified and treated.  The body is very complex and one apparent disorder may be a cover in hiding another not yet diagnosed.  We seek to work closely with healing practitioners to identify all of the disorders and then treat them accordingly.
